Ojo Caliente, Original 11x14 inch drawing
This drawing is named after Ojo Caliente, once of my favorite places. It’s an outdoor hot springs in northern New Mexico. They light fires in the outdoor fireplace in the evening and that delicious pinion smoke scent, combined with the hot mineral water and clear, crisp skies is intoxicating to the senses. The contrasting cool blue and warm orange remind me of going back and forth between the water and the cool night air. The sprig of juniper is extra special to me because it comes from our land and drawing it deepened my connection to this place.
The detailed drawing is done slowly and carefully with ink and brush over more loose brushstrokes in colour, combining control with expression, spontaneity with restraint. Putting ink to paper and observing what takes place sparks my imagination and reminds me that we are constantly unfolding with the universe.
Chinese ink and watercolor on Stonehenge paper. This piece is sold unframed, and framing is recommended on arrival, either matted and framed as a traditional watercolor painting would be, or mounted in a shadowbox style frame.
