Abiquiú, Original 11x14 inch painting on birch panel

CA$245.00

This painting was inspired by Georgia O’keefe, a painter that I admire who lived in and loved Abiquiú, New Mexico. If you’re familiar with her work, you’ll see the influence, the far away landscape in the distance with a found item (often a bone, shell, or flower) floating in front of it. It is a departure from my usual compositions but it felt right and I really enjoy the result.

This area is known for it’s beautiful layered colors of sedimentary rock, exposed for our appreciation. There are so many shades of yellows, reds, pink, oranges, and taupe in the mountains in this area, it’s almost unreal.

This painting is done with watercolour and ink on birch panel. The panel is prepared with a base of watercolour medium which is what gives it that toothy texture and makes it absorbent enough to take plenty of wet, runny colour.

It is protected with a UV protective varnish and is ready to hang. The edges are painted so it can be hung framed or unframed, as you wish.
