Named after an amazing spot on the Colorado border with incredible cliff dwellings. The contrast here between the heat and punishing sun on the mesa top, and the coolness of the shady caves is so intense. I remember how my eyes felt as I looked out from the top, like they were expanding and relaxing to take it all in. I also recall what a relief it was to enter the darkness of the caves and touch the cold stone walls. Heaven.

The detailed drawing is done slowly and carefully with ink and brush over more loose brushstrokes in colour, combining control with expression, spontaneity with restraint. Putting ink to paper and observing what takes place sparks my imagination and reminds me that we are constantly unfolding with the universe.
