This is the largest piece in the series and it’s inspired by the arroyo (a brook, or seasonal creek) behind my in-law’s place in New Mexico. This is the location where I first practiced connecting with nature by engaging my senses. I stroked the smooth stones, I felt the soft sand give way under my feet, I inhaled the powerful scent of juniper, I ran my fingers through the dry grasses, and I listened to the breeze rustle the leaves of the cottonwoods. After many hours spent here, I built a relationship with this place and I learned how to do that in any place. It was beautiful.

This painting is done with watercolour and ink on birch panel. The panel is prepared with a base of watercolour medium which is what gives it that toothy texture and makes it absorbent enough to take plenty of wet, runny colour.

It is protected with a UV protective varnish and is ready to hang. The edges are painted so it can be hung framed or unframed, as you wish.
